Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatu Allahi wa BarakatuHu,
In sha Allah this message reaches you in a state of high eman and health. We have been progressing successfully through the course of this school year. To keep your in the loop, we have the following updates.
This week in Math, our 8th graders and using what we've been studying in exponents and scientific notation to apply it to real world concepts and word problems similar to the ones they may see in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Next week, we are going to do some broader coverage of topics to practice test taking skills for the MEAP test, which you might have guessed is 2 weeks from now! I would like to thank all of our students for keeping up the hard work and trying their best and always remind them making mistakes isn't bad because we have to make those mistakes in order to learn from them!
This week in Science, Students have been working on their methods of heat transfer lab. They're exploring the many ways in which heat can be transferred which in turn will lead to their understanding of heat and its affect on the weather system.
In Language Arts, the 8th graders have been discovering connections between all areas of study as they work on solidifying their thoughts and framing their portfolio essay. In addition, we have been analyzing The Last Lecture, and its significance. Finally, we have been meeting in small groups to further understand the system of expressing our ideas precisely and accurately through writing.
In Social Studies, students have been examining the processes that helped to unite early colonial Americans. Additionally, students have been comparing those unifying processes to what brings us together as Muslims. In the coming weeks, we will be wrapping up this unit on colonial America, preparing our unit projects, and getting ready to take the unit test. For their unit projects, students will be writing speeches in which they advise other nations of the world how to become united. It would be great if your child got a chance to practice the speech in front of you and other family members!
Finally, Jazakum Allahu Khairan for the feedback on the Washington, D.C. trip survey. Insha'Allah permission slips will be out soon. Open House will be this Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 6:00 beginning in the activities building. Insha'Allah we hope to see you then. Please be sure to check this Weebly site for all updates in relation to our eighth grade class. Please feel free to contact myself, or any of the other 8th grade teachers.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan
Ms.El-Alami and the 8th grade team
