Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatu Allahi wa BarakatuHu,
In sha Allah this message reaches you in a state of high eman and health. We have been progressing successfully through the course of this school year. To keep your in the loop, we have the following updates.
In Language Arts, This unit focuses on Intellectual Literacy: Space, Triplicity, Perspective and Order. Students will discover how space impacts their focus, how space impacts their lives, and how metaphorically speaking space works within their brains. Students will be exploring concepts of Censorship and Conformity in the book Fahrenheit 451. In addition, students will be exploring how language has a certain order, particularly when citing sources and when applying punctuation such as commas, colons and semicolons.
In Alhamdulillah, students are beginning to wrap up their understanding of weather and meteorology. For the next two weeks, they will be working on their weather instruments in which they will be using to collect data on weather daily. This project is worth a test grade and should be spending time at home daily in order to complete it by December 17th. We're also expecting a visit from a meteorologist this week and look forward to the knowledge he will share about weather forecasting.
In Social Studies, students have been thinking and exploring the role of slavery and tension between the North in South in propelling our nation toward the Civil War. We have been looking at primary sources and trying our best to understand what it must have really felt to be a slave, and why the issue of slavery was such a charged issue for people in Antebellum America. As we move along our studies, we will be examining the events that led up to the Civil War and the nature of the war itself. Finally, we will be further exploring our essential questions and ideas and thinking about what we can learn from conflict and from war.
In the future, please check this Weebly site for the class bi-weekly newsletter and for any updates regarding the 8th grade class. Updates can be found on the homepage. Please feel free to contact myself, or any of the other 8th grade teachers. We value any input we receive from you.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan
Ms.El-Alami and the 8th grade team
