Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatu Allahi wa BarakatuHu,
In sha Allah this message reaches you in a state of high eman and health. We have been progressing successfully through the course of this school year. To keep your in the loop, we have the following updates.
In Language Arts, As we are closing out our trimester with our culminating trip, we are shaping student experiences to reflect one aspect of this hadith:
"Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth, before you become old; and your health, before you fall sick; and your richness, before you become poor; and your free time before you become busy; and your life, before your death."
Our focus for the Legacy Trip is to take advantage of your life before your death. In this trip, students will visit the Arlington Cemetary, they will see memorials, monuments and statues representing other individual's legacy and they will look at what type of legacy they should leave-- what type of legacy matters to Allah, swt.
In Social Studies, we have begun our studies in Unit Two. Students are thinking about the idea of morality and what moments in American History signify moral action and which do not. Additionally, students will begin working on artifacts and projects that prepare them for the Legacy Trip. Finally, students will be working on presenting their speeches which they worked on during Unit One. We have a lot coming our way but we are very excited!
As a final note, I would like to recognize Hassam Shoaib and Ahmet Turk. During our eid field trip to Skyzone, Hassam sprained his ankle. He was very patient and mature about the situation and he did not complain at all. Though he was in pain, Hassam acted with grace. We ask that Allah swt gives him shifa and that his ankle heals completely. Simultaneously, when Hassam got injured, Ahmet sat out of some of the activities so that he could sit by Hassam and keep him company. This instance of true friendship shows the great class community that we have in our 8th grade and how much the 8th graders are capable of.
